Symbolism- The couple sitting on their money symbolizes their savings and the Relator is
the housing market begging someone to buy the house.
Exaggeration- The couple is actually sitting on their money. When in reality the money is most
likely in a bank.
The cartoon is about the housing market being slow and no one wanting to invest in a new house. The cartoonist thinks that it’s better to save your money than spend money on a house in the economy. Others would agree with the cartoonist because he portrays to be right about the issue of buying a new house. This cartoon is persuasive because it is telling the viewer no matter how hard realtors “beg”, it is not the right time to buy a house. The cartoonist could have added more visuals about money to make it stand out a little better.

Symbolism- The cartoonist symbolizes someone actually liking one thing the president does because he usually doesn’t like Obama’s government decisions.
Labeling– The newspaper is labeling Obama and his march madness pick for the brackets. The cartoonist shirt
has an Indiana University emblem printed on it.
Analogy- Compares the decision of Obama’s March madness pick and his government decisions
Irony- It’s ironic how the guy is happy about Obama’s pick, but usually doesn’t like him
The cartoon is about the cartoonist finally agreeing with Obama. The cartoonist’s opinion is that Obama only has good decisions with picking team to win in basketball rather than governing the United States. Other opinions can be mixed, where democratic viewers would be repulsed by statement and republicans would agree with the cartoon. It’s somewhat persuasive because of the color and the bold big letters draw the viewer’s eyes to the text. I think the reader does not need any other technique to make the cartoon any more persuasive.

Symbolism- The elephant and the donkey symbolize the two parties (Republican and Democrats).
Irony- That both parties are the cause of the shutdown
Exaggeration-The Donkey and Elephant are acting like children in the cartoon, but it relates to what’s actually happening because neither side is giving.
The problem in this cartoon is both political parties not taking blame for the shutdown. This cartoonist does not really have a clear opinion, the cartoonist represents both political views. Other people might agree with one side or the other. I do not find this cartoon persuasive because it does not make a clear view and plays on the fence of the political spectrum. The cartoonist could’ve made a clear point or lean to one side or the other to make a persuasive cartoon.
